The Teacher in Early Head Start Program is responsible for facilitating structured activities that foster social, physical, and cognitive growth in children. This role involves planning both individual and group activities tailored to enhance each child's unique strengths based on ongoing assessments and observations. Additionally, the teacher integrates parents' goals for their children into daily programming. This position is in-person only.
COMPONENT MISSION
The objectives of the Education Services Component are to:
Provide children with a learning environment and developmentally appropriate opportunities that will foster each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.
Integrate the aspects of the various Early Head Start component areas into the schedule of educational activities.
Encourage parents to provide continuity from center to home activities and to reinforce their role as the primary influence on their child’s education and development.
Assist parents in identifying educational activities for their children in the home.
Support parents to increase their knowledge, understanding and experiences of their child’s growth and development.
Provides continuous supervision of all children’s activities to ensure their safety.
Establishes safety rules in the daily routines of children that are understandable and predictable by children and adults.
Plan and implement a positive and comfortable routine within the classroom environment through realistic limits for the children, providing for active and quite opportunities and establishing consistent and appropriate transitions from one activity to another.
Develops and implements weekly lesson plan.
Maintains and documents ongoing observation, progress, and developmental progress of each child.
Responsible for attending off-site meetings, company functions, and training sessions as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Teacher II: A Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field is required.
Teacher I: A minimum of an Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education and/or Child Development is required. Candidates must also agree to participate in professional staff development plan until the completion of a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A valid California Children’s Center Permit or California Child Development Teacher Permit is required.
Candidates must have six (6) units in Infant/Toddler education; if not currently held, these units must be completed within one year of employment.
A minimum of two (2)years of paid experience working with children aged 0-5 is required, with a strong preference for experience with infants and toddlers.
Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are a must, along with proficiency in English for effective interaction.
Ability to incorporate parental input into child development goals.
Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with diverse populations, including low-income families.
Empathy and responsiveness to the needs of others.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and a genuine dedication to serving children and the community.
Capability to quickly assess and respond to a variety of situations.
Required to have a reliable vehicle, a current and valid California Driver’s License, and general liability automobile insurance.
