CHILD CARE CENTERS
Usually located in a commercial building, non-medical care and supervision in a group setting.
FAMILY CHILD CARE HOMES
These licensed homes range from 8 to 14 children, also providing non-medical care and supervision.
EXEMPT LICENSE CARE
Other select child care providers are exempt by the state from obtaining a child care license. The four groups that qualify are: 1) a family relative who cares for the children of one other family in addition to their own children; 2) private non-profit programs that offer recreational services; 3) businesses that offer limited child care to their clients and customers; and 4) programs that are overseen by state agencies.
Head Start is a program of the United States Department of Health and Human Services that provides comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services to low-income children and families.
The CA Work Opportunities and Responsibility to Kids program is the California welfare implementation of the federal welfare-to-work Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program that provides cash aid and services to eligible California families.
