GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the direction of the Site Supervisor and Nutrition Manager, the employee plans, prepares, and serves meals and snacks for children in accordance with Head Start State Preschool nutrition guidelines and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulations. The position is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safefood-service environment while supporting the health and well-being of enrolled children.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The employees’ duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Sanitation And Safety

  • Collect, wash, sanitize, and properly store dishes, utensils, cookware, and other food-service items.
  • Maintain the kitchen, food preparation areas, appliances, and equipment in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Follow all required health, sanitation, food-safety, and workplace-safety procedures.
  • Wear an apron, hair restraint, and other required protective attire while preparing or serving food.
  • Maintain a clean and professional personal appearance.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties related to kitchen and food-service operations.
  • Administrative and Program Support
  • Attend staff meetings, training sessions, seminars, and other professional development activities as assigned.
  • Follow established MAOF policies, procedures, program standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Communicate and work cooperatively with supervisors, teachers, coworkers, families, and other program staff.
  • Perform other related duties asassigned.

Food Preparation and Service

  • Prepare daily meals and snacks for children in accordance with approved menus, portion requirements, and applicable nutrition guidelines.
  • Measure and document food temperatures upon arrival and at the time of service.
  • Assist with serving meals and snacks to children.
  • Follow established procedures for food preparation, handling, storage, and service.
  • Support positive mealtime experiences and treat each child with warmth, respect, affection, and dignity.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current ServSafe Certification preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and apply sound judgment.
  • Ability to organize and complete assigned work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, menus, recipes, safety procedures, and food-service requirements.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, families, and members of the public.
  • Ability to work effectively aspart of a team and collaborate with program staff.
  • Must provide required immunization records, including influenza, pertussis, and measles, at the time of employment and annually thereafter, as applicable.
