The Nutrition Program Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality nutrition services within Child Care and Head Start programs. This role focuses on ensuring that meals and snacks meet state and federal guidelines, assisting with nutrition education activities, and fostering healthy eating habits for children. Under the supervision of the Nutrition Manager, this position collaborates with staff and food service providers to ensure compliance with health, safety, and dietary regulations. This position plays a critical role in promoting the health and well-being of children in care by ensuring nutritious meals and fostering positive eating habits essential to their growth and development.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; courses in nutrition, health, or related fields preferred.
Experience in child care or early education,preferably in food service or nutrition.
Bilingual in English and Spanish.
Knowledge of food handling safety and sanitation regulations.
Familiarity with CACFP guidelines and Head Start nutrition standards is a plus.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for accurate record-keeping.
Effective communication skills for diverse audiences including staff, children, and families.
Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding work-related materials.
Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Positive attitude with excellent customer service skills.
Good interpersonal skills and phone etiquette.
Regular attendance Monday through Friday.
Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Basic computer skills, including Windows,databases, and Google Suite.
Ability to lift and move food supplies and equipment as needed.
Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Valid California Driver’s License, accessible vehicle, and liability insurance. Willingness to drive and travel as required.
