Responsible for maintaining the facilities, classrooms, child care centers, offices, grounds, equipment, and storage areas of the Child Care and Development Program in a clean, safe, orderly, and well-maintained condition.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the general supervision of the Site Supervisor, Lead Custodian, and/or designee, the Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of the center's facilities, grounds, and equipment in accordance with established MAOF policies and procedures.
Regularly clean and maintain center and office floors, utility rooms, storage areas, hallways, classrooms, and outdoor play areas.
Clean and disinfect restrooms daily; restock paper and hygiene supplies; and empty wastebaskets and recycling containers.
Clean windows, mirrors, doors, walls, glass surfaces, and other building fixtures to maintain a clean and professional appearance.
Load and unload deliveries; organize storage areas; rotate food and supply inventory; and maintain orderly stockrooms.
Setup equipment and furniture for classroom activities, meetings, and special events as needed.
Perform minor maintenance and repairs to facilities and equipment; promptly report major maintenance issues to the Site Supervisor or Lead Custodian.
Secure the facility by ensuring doors, gates, and windows are properly locked after operating hours, and report any safety or security concerns.
Complete required health and safety checklists accurately and consistently, and follow up on identified issues.
Submit requests for janitorial and maintenance supplies and maintain an organized inventory.
Follow all applicable health, sanitation, and infection-control procedures to maintain a safe environment for children, staff, and visitors.
Safely operate and maintain custodial equipment and cleaning products in accordance with manufacturer instructions and safety guidelines.
Maintain a professional appearance and represent MAOF in a courteous and professional manner at all times.
Attend required meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions.
Support the implementation of MAOF's Child Care and Development Program by assisting staff in maintaining a safe, clean, and child-friendly environment.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation and cleanliness of the center.
REQUIREMENTS
Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred.
Ability to perform the physical requirements of custodial work, including lifting,bending, standing, walking, and operating custodial equipment.
Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of application.
Valid California Driver's License, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile liability insurance.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Must successfully complete all pre-employment health requirements, including a physical examination, tuberculosis (TB) clearance, required immunizations (influenza, pertussis, and measles), and criminal background clearances through the FBI, DOJ, and CACI prior to employment.
Must complete state-required fingerprinting and maintain Live Scan clearance throughout employment.
USE OF EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES
Custodial staff may work with equipment and vehicles that are essential to maintaining aclean, safe, and welcoming early childhood learning environment. Because these items are valuable and critical to daily operations, all employees are expectedto use MAOF property responsibly, follow operating instructions, and adhere toall safety standards and guidelines.
Employees must promptly notify their supervisor if any equipment, tools, machines, or vehicles appear damaged, defective, or in need of maintenance. Early reporting helps prevent further damage and reduces the risk of injury to staff, children, and visitors. Supervisors are available to answer questions regarding the proper care, maintenance, and safe operation of assigned equipment or vehicles.
Employees are expected to operate all MAOF equipment, tools, and vehicles safely and responsibly. Improper, careless, negligent, or unauthorized use of MAOFproperty, including avoidable traffic or parking violations while operating agency vehicles, may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
